What The Papers Say: Roche Shines As Shrimps Record Welcome Win

The article reports how Roche saved John Grant's 40th minute penalty and produced two further stunning blocks from Grant and Kirk Hudson to keep his side in the game as the Shots enjoyed a period on top in the first half.

Morecambe started well and enjoyed the majority of the possession with Ryan McGivern forcing Nikki Bull into a flying save with a fierce left foot drive before the Shrimps lost top scorer Rene Howe who pulled up with a hamstring injury.

After he went off Morecambe lost their shape but Aldershot failed to turn possession into goals and the Shrimps made them pay in the second half.

The Shrimps took the lead on 56 minutes when on-loan Manchester City teenager Ryan McGivern found space down the left and drilled in a low cross which Stewart Drummond turned past Nikki Bull from 23 yards out.

Aldershot hit back with Roche producing a superb save to block John Grant's close range effort before Ben Harding was unfortunate to hit the crossbar with a fierce 30-yard strike.

But as the Shots pushed forward they left gaps at the back and Morecambe took advantage with Wayne Curtis put through on goal. His effort was well saved by Bull but McGivern followed up to slot home the rebound to open his account for the Shrimps.
